Learned today from my mechanic that my '95 Mercury Sable Wagon is on its last leg and not worth repairing (Transmission going and the engine has significant wear on it as it is). This puts me into a position I have never faced before: buying a car.
Chances are that I will own this car for 11 months (give or take), when I graduate and hopefully land a decent paying consulting job. As far as my requirements go: the car has to be fast, agile, and have great stopping power (for those nice winter mornings). Having a good impact rating would be nice too. And I need all this for $5K or less (probably less).
Any suggestions as far as make, year, etc?
