| So I've been out of contact with consumerism for the better part of the year, and the following has happened:
I am drowning in a technology spurt: LCD tv, 17 lb laptop, etc. I am utterly clueless when it comes to the internet, all over again. Oink still works, yet I can't get any other sites to work for the shows, you know, the few remaining ones I wasn't able to acquire en masse from reputable Iraqi merchants. And I find I like Fallujans, overall, more than middle Americans. I'm pretty sure my original loyalties are intact, but there is a refreshing honesty to Sunni Triangle dishonesty that people who consider themselves southern by the grace of god without irony lack. But, more importantly, being swamped in creature comforts, excited about "new" games already in the bargain bin from 7 months ago (fuck yeah, jade empire)...it EASILY outweighs quasiexistential/mostly gay misgivings about American identity. Your culture sucks, because my Xbox is running at 1080 on 32 inches of HDTV goodness. |
