Roasted chestnut: it's not immoral if nobody gets hurt. Clearly they discount ASSHURT.
The comments are priceless, including lots of monocle-popping about the trolls that may or may not be in our midst! But I want to slap the author around, not the teeming and unwashed filthy Brits who, as has historically been the case, labor under permanent delusions that their opinions matter.
The "Gay Sex Doesn't Hurt Anyone, So Why Is It Immoral, and Also Illegal?" argument, which I will abbreviate as Gay, is a terrifically insulting argument. Plus it's stupid. It's stupid because it accepts that laws are made on moral majority bases, then attempts to argue its way out of having the moral majority basis applied to the gay. It's insulting because it insists on fuddling two things which have no business with each other: immorality and illegality. Lots of pro-choice people make a very similar mistake when they talk about the moral and quality-of-life rights of the woman as opposed to the parasite organism - doing so puts the ball firmly in the court of people who want laws to be moral and morals to be law.
OOPS!
Legal moralists hate counterarguments like: financial institutions and universal health care. Because usury is definitely immoral - Old Testament and New - and universal health care is the legislation of a moral value: charity, both in the monetary and the compassion unto others senses. Think of the lives saved! Gay essayists should be writing Fuck You articles like "Mortgaging My Gay Sex" and "My Butthole, Ph.D."
