Forum Overview :: Rants

Is the Internet full of crazies? by bink 06/01/2007, 4:35am PDT
Does the increase of autism among young people mean an increased number of social maladaptives posting away on web forums? Why does every half-baked incredible conspiracy theory about Bush or Israel or the government get bandied about the net quicker than the latest Lindsay Lohan picture or Paris Hilton news story and upvoted into the hundreds at sites like Digg and Reddit? How come every other post on Metafilter or similar sites is a rant about how the government needs to be taken down "by any means necessary?" Politicians have referred to the Internet as a "breeding ground for extremism," so, with these weighty questions on my mind rendered all the more significant by my own mental health diagnosis, I set out to the two frontlining political webpages and found my answer in less than five minutes. Check out this screencap from Democratic Underground's frontpage:

Most recently updated, huh?

And then, at Free Republic, after clicking somewhat bemusedly on a link claiming "SYRIA PREPARING FOR WAR THIS SUMMER" I found this exultation in the form of Biblical prophecy.

I think that answers my questions.
