Lawd knows I have worked in some intolerable-ass conditions. I empathize with anyone trying to deal with horrible co-workers. But to deal with them by... cowering, crying, and tattling behind their backs?!?!?!?!?????!?!?!?!??!!?!???!? At my previous job everyone was completely insane and spent 90% of the day writing terrible gossipy emails about each other, then staring at the back of my head and silently hating me. And well they ought to have hated! I ratted them out right to their faces like God intended. I dragged my manager into group conference after group conference to try and get the relentless backstabbing under control. I was autistic-shocked at how nasty grown men and women would be to each other, and how nakedly they would lie about it when confronted. So there I was, miserable for a year. As someone who was utterly miserable at a job I'm qualified to dispense advice on work-related misery. Here's my advice for the OP and everyone who has ever posted at QT3: Always be a white knight. Make them fire you for the whiteness of your knighting. DO NOT STEAL OFFICE SUPPLIES. It's an absurd crime and petty in the extreme. If you have to fuck everyone on your way out the door, do it by briefly outlining your issues with the workplace in a letter, and hand that letter directly to the CEO or President or COO. Dude could tear it up in your face, sure, but that's not your problem any more. At the same time, DO NOT TATTLE ON PEOPLE WHO ARE FUCKING THE COMPANY ON THE WAY OUT THE DOOR. It is the justice of the small-minded; let them have the portion they can fight for. If a jacked-up bodybuilder is in your face screaming at you for fucking up a task, and you can't quit on the spot (which Chet was totally right about for a change,) GO BRAVE THE BOSS' DISPLEASURE. Write it all down and get in the guy's face about it, then get in your boss' boss' face if nothing happens. That there is a hostile work environment! If you get bitchwork first and fired later, fine, you tried. If you just get in all kinds of trouble, fine, cope and don't back down. No of course it won't win you any friends. Of course you are fucking your prospects in the ass. None of that matters. You were fucked the instant you got into that situation anyway. What actually matters is this: later on when you're ruminating on what went wrong, you won't post on QT3 about being a pussy. You will never have to be the guy who admits, with guilty, wounded, victim-colored tears streaming down his face, that he was a pussy copyshop boy, a quavering gofer with kick-sand permanently affixed to his face.
