"FREETARDS" (boy this guy hates free stuff) by Fussbett 01/17/2009, 1:55pm PST
Most people just don't need fresh news every micro-second to be effective in their lives. It's an illusion Internet news seems determined to cater to ...

Of course they don't need it, but it's awesome.

Only Wal-Mart has demonstrated that it can be a venue for defying lifestyle thieves and moochers. It's customers still buy stuff on spec. Some of the best-selling CDs were sold through Wal-Mart in 2008, by artists who realized selling it anywhere else would simply be killing themselves. AC/DC's CD, "Black Ice," released in autumn, became one of the biggest selling units of the year -- at $48 million -- in part, because the band stubbornly refused to cater to the Internet's digital and freetard audiences. In this way, it preserved its art.

I've posted it already, but AC/DC sold ALL of their CDs, 2.5 million up front, to Walmart for a flat fee. Holding this up as art preservation gave me a laugh about art that I haven't enjoyed since Katy "I Kissed a Girl" Perry talked about retaining her artistic integrity:

Pop star KATY PERRY was forced to battle with record label bosses because they originally wanted her to copy AVRIL LAVIGNE.

When the I Kissed A Girl hitmaker was starting out in the industry, every music chief she encountered encouraged her to follow in the footsteps of Lavigne, whose punk pop style was ruling the charts at the time. But Perry was determined to stick to her own image, even if it meant turning down lucrative offers from several record labels.

She says, "When I first started at 17, the hit song was Complicated (by Avril Lavigne) and everyone wanted me to write a Complicated. I said, 'Look, that's her and this is me. Everybody loves her song and hopefully everyone will like mine.'"

Katy Perry stuck to her (huge DD) guns and eventually hit it big with her unique sound. Instead of a pop punk, it's a punky pop.
