You've sure showed me the error of mocking Jsoh with your trenchant reply!
Honestly, lets not take sides with Jsoh in this. Or anything, really.
You see that one checkpoint? That one checkpoint makes the game a million times better than GTA4
Time from mission acquirement to site of mission via taxi in GTAIV: 10-30 seconds to hail a cab and climb in, 2 seconds to select your mission giver, 1 second to press A for quick travel. Skip cutscene, walk out, get another taxi, quick travel to mission. On a few missions this increases to maybe two minutes while you wander around trying to find a random taxi. But the funny thing is you don't have to make your way to the mission site initially if you don't want to! You ALWAYS have to make a 15 minute hike to get to the fucking opium den assholes who give you your jobs, and THEN another 15 minute hike across town in Assassin's Creed to get to your main target. And fuck you if you get spotted on the way there, because an imaginary virtual blue wall will spring up around your objective and you'll have to fight off 150 fucking guys before finally finding a roof garden to dive into and magically disappear in. It got so obnoxious I made a point to always do the mini-task of helping out a gang of five guys near my main objective, and if I got spotted I'd immediately run towards them.
and that's ignoring that was one of the subcategory of sandbox games that invests heavily in having an entertaining means of getting around and succeeds.
Riding your stupid horse around Crusader Israel where there's ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO OR SEE except get a bunch of fucking flags with no utility whatsoever. What was that you were saying earlier about mini-objectives with utility as compared to GTAIV?
Meanwhile, GTA4's contribution to that was the fucking tollbooth and the whimsical taxi service.
