Re: the main problem I've always had with DoW

Infantry armour takes 100% damage from everything, except less from anti-vehicle and "barrage" whatever the fuck that is. Heavy Infantry takes less damage from the two most common damage types (shootin' and stabbin'), but 125-150% damage from heavy weapons and anti-vehicle shit and pretty much everything else. This is intended and how the database works. Good job relic making heavy infantry mean you take more damage in general. Sluggas are brokenly powerful and Stormboyz can be built and you won't be laughed at.
All the damage/hp/armor mechanics were hidden and you had very little feedback of what worked best beyond "use rockets on vehicles".
It's pretty simple: power, explosive and plasma weapons are effective vs heavy infantry. Unfortunately, it's so effective that tacs get their shit wasted in seconds. It's an extra 30% damage, plus heavy armor no longer confers a 30% melee reduction, meaning anything with a power weapon will piss all over tacs so fast it's not even funny.
When was it best to use a flamer vs heavy bolter vs plasma gun? Who has power weapons vs normal weapons and who do they work best against?
I think in DOWI, having a power weapon was a meaningless distinction. In DOW2, it a meaningful distinction and it's pretty clear who has them. The only head scratcher is that stormboyz have power weapons. All the other power weapons have glowy energy effects on them, and stormboyz choppas look like regular old slugga choppas.
It was especially bad with the first DoW since the damage numbers were nowhere near accurate, and some units wouldn't even give you an amount of hitpoints. Couple that with a damage lag that kept you wondering what was doing all the damage in addition to half the attacks/armor not working as they should at any given patch.
DOWI was insane. I had to keep reading the wiki to find out why I lost. Sentinel damage vs vehicle armor is excellent, but shitty vs heavy vehicle armor, OKAY. There was some funny, random stuff in there. The harlequin's handgun had 100% accuracy but did zero damage to all armor types, almost all vehicles had differing damage values for the left and right machine guns, the expensive as hell Tau LVL3 listening post did less damage to certain armor types than the LVL2 one (I think they fixed the harlequin and Tau listening post for Soulstorm, though).
