Things like Steam push the problem of file management on someone else. All I have to do is decide whether to install something, and if I want it I always know where to find it. I don't have to worry about hardware / media format / etc. changes, that's Valve's problem. They just need to make it available through the tubes. There's also what Last mentioned about seeing what your friends are doing. I don't have to get on AIM anymore and ask people if they want to play Team Fortress and then have them tell me they're already playing and then ask them for the server name and shit it's not showing up in the list what's the IP fuck the server's full let me know when somebody leaves.
