Believe me, I'm not worried about Steam AT ALL.
Let me tell you the story of my one and only experience with Steam. The year was 2003 (here we go... -Ed) and I was humming along, minding my own business, playing Counter-Strike at 640x480 on my overclocked Celeron with 128 megs of RAM and fuckin' Voodoo graphics, not a care in the world. WHEN SUDDENLY Valve decides that from now on I was going to need to go through Steam to play a game that I already paid for with some negligible amount of my own money (or maybe I got it for free, I don't remember). Overnight, the system requirements went from the Pentium I with 32 megs of RAM printed on the box to a Pentium III with 256, cleaving two ENTIRE GENERATIONS of Pentium in one fell swoop. I couldn't even get the client to load! It would get half way and stall out while the hard drive thrashed like a drowning man gasping for Counter-Strike. As far as I was concerned, Valve robbed me just as sure as if they'd broken into my mom's house where I lived and made off with the CD. So for all I care Steam could be better than sex (how would I even know?), but I'll be cold in the ground before I ever support that sort of thing. Also, my de facto monopoly cable provider has me on an (admittedly generous, compared to some) bandwidth cap, so re-downloading everything on my hard drive after the yearly reinstall would add approximately three months to the process. I'm sorry, but I don't play computer games for the DELAYED gratification!
