I recently went back and watched all the original Star Trek movies and they are largely shit by today's standards. Wrath of Khan was pretty good but the rest were just fucking godawful boring TV-movie-of-the-week stupid boring bullshit. Okay, I should clarify "stupid". The stories involved characters figuring out more shit than in the Abrams Treks, but they were still pretty pathetic examples a future paramilitary organization. The crew all make dumbass decisions because the movies needed to have all the fat SHITTY ACTORS (except nimoy) on screen. Hey there's a murderer on board and we found a boot, let's call everyone into the locker room and then call in the suspect who SURPRIZESUPRIZE has giant fucking lizard tree trunk feet. Were those the same feet he was wearing when he came on board? Who cares at least Chekov gets some screen time. The Klingons were boring as fuck (hey the most feared warriors in existence didn't think to have a single training class on zero-g fighting before they loaded up their SPACESHIP so the entire crew gets perforated to fuck by a couple stooges). The original movies are full of stupid star trek SHIT like 1.) informed attributes out the fucking ass and 2.) nobody has a lick of goddamn sense. There's no way you believe for a millisecond that these assholes are experienced crewmembers of a flagship. They act like a gang of fat shitty actors bumbling around on an adventure. The new star trek movies aren't great cinema but at least they are exciting and the acting is decent. Two advantages over the original movies. Everything else is a wash. The originals had more talking-things-through but still dumbass goofball decisions. The new ones have a raw pure-talent crew and less plausible situations. Both of them tech-the-tech-tech to solve problems. This is kind of rambling, but I'm happy to be convinced that the original movies are good. Please be forewarned that I recently saw them with fresh eyes.
