Steam sale purchases: Max Payne 3, Might & Magic Clash of Heroes
Max Payne 3 Better gameplay than the previous ones, much much worse story. Typical Rockstar writing trying to ape Max Payne writing using the visual style of Man on Fire, possibly the worst edited movie ever and doubly so when trying to play a videogame out of it SO WHAT THE FUCK guys. The multiplayer looks like it could have been fun back in the day, but you'll only find half a dozen level 45 Russians playing straight deathmatch in 2013. I kept hearing how fun gang mode was but I'll never know because multiplayer communities always insist on only populating the shittiest modes. Clash of Heroes There was a good idea here for a fantasy SRPG version of Tetris Attack, but the execution hasn't been that great. The campaign story is a tedious affair of running around finding exactly the right order of battles that you're the right level for. Obnoxiosly, most of the side missions are much harder than the current story missions so you'll be running the story until you're stuck then need to back track 2 loading screens back to find the side missions you can do. Get ready for manually saving every battle then quitting and reloading if you lose too many units. Anything but the lowest level units die permanently and the gold to replace them is finite. Get ready to quit and restart a battle as soon as it starts because you were totally fucked by the random setup putting your massive elite units in the bottom row.Or how battles can be one or lost on setup if you luck out and just happen to have your quick firing archers positioned to take out the enemy elite units before they're activated. That's kind of what kills this game: battles revolves entirely around the elite units but the rules involving them are so fucked (must be in front to activate, perma death). The elves seem by far the worst faction and they're the ones you're stuck playing as for the first 5 hours. They have a bunch of stuff that's supposed to be sneaky shit but the sneaky shit isn't useful enough to keep them from being blown out of the water by the other races' straightforward units with the superior damage and health numbers. My only hope is grinding the elf portion enough to get past it and finally get to play with the decent races but I can't see getting around the random setup fucking your elite units problem.
