Re: Looking forward to the self-quotes already

because insane people quote themselves a lot and Paul is certified insane.
Certified by whom? You do realize that publicly accusing someone of having a loathsome disease or of mental ilness is by definition the statutory definition of libel. I happen to be a private person. If I wanted to be a miserable fuck, I could sue you, have you traced down, then it's your responsibilty to provide evidence to prove that the statement is true. But I have a thick skin, I'm a big boy and I can stand other people's stupid lies. But the next time you might say that and that person might have a lot thinner skin. Then you're looking at civil damages in which they can strip you of everything you own that isn't exempt by law, and put a lien on you as well as garnish your salary until the judgement, plus interest, is paid. Yeah, you can get away with saying nasty, spiteful or hurtful things under a cloud of pseudonymous identifier, but it's not perfect and someone could find out whom you are. But the next guy might be one of those crazies who decides he's going to go after you because he didn't like what you said. And since I am a private person (and the person you commented about probably is too) you don't have the luxury of using the alternative defense of recklessness. If you defame a public figure, they have to prove that you knew it was untrue or you didn't know it was untrue but you said it with reckless disregard for whether the statement is true or false. All a private person has to prove is you said something that wasn't true and if you can't prove truth then you're on the hook. And if you piss off someone with thin skin you could be in for a world of hurt. You can't discharge a judgment of libel by declaring bankruptcy, they can collect for the rest of your life or until the debt, plus interest, is paid.
