Come on, gramps, TWTR already IPO'ed
They missed the chance to get the TWIT abbreviation for their stock-- a HUGE oversight in my opinion. (HUGE HUGE HUGE!) I thought Twitter was merely a method for morons to exchange meaningless details of their lives with one another until I discovered comedy and parody accounts. 140 characters isn't enough to have a coherent discussion or argument, but it's definitely enough to deliver a one-liner. The "gselevator" account changed my opinion of Twitter by being actually funny. There was also a parody account by engineers at TWTR itself basically mocking how ridiculously pampered they are (tweets like "lobster AGAIN?" etc.) But I can't seem to find it any more... maybe the managment shut it down. Twitter is actually one of the last bastions of anonymity online. In an age of Facebook building "shadow profiles" of people who __haven't even signed up__, Google instituting a "real names policy," and Microsoft trying to tie all your accounts together, Twitter still lets you post shit without asking too many questions. There are even accounts like "Big Data Borat" where nobody knows quite who it is, despite years of posts about industry events and gossip and quite a lot of followers. People get fired for tweeting dumb stuff under their own names, but nobody is forcing you to use your real name for every tweet. Of course Twitter is really shitty in many, many ways, but sometimes there is a silver lining. Want to tweet anonymously about overthrowing Egypt's government? Yeah, sure, whatever. Of course, if someone were tweeting about overthrowing USGov, I think the gloves would probably come off. C'est la vie.
