Update: about to uninstall
Does this game ever fucking tell you how to play and open up the strategic resource/base stuff? Was it available the whole time expecting me to just stumble across it? Every online resource is just a story mission guide. It makes it seem like there's nothing to do but follow timed story missions. So I do the missions to save your starting buddy Ed. It's urgent! Drive all the way out to the Wilkens place to get the doctor. Did you leave half your inventory open because the game up until this point always encouraged you to do so for carrying back supplies? Well fuck you! Defense mission! Half a dozen horde waves and 2 fatties! Don't worry, here's a bunch of molotovs. Ha ha, just kidding, fuck you! You can't actually use them. You can't throw them through barricaded windows and they'll just set you and your ally on fire. You can't melee attack through barricades either, so that one gun you brought (because the game has given you zero hints up until this point you'd need a ton of firepower for this) will have to do. Not that you'l hit much, because you're armed with Grand Theft Auto controls to headshot zombies with the speed of Left 4 Dead meets the dodging of Resident Evil 4. You can only melee them after they break in, at which point fuck you again. Finish the mission, drained of ammo, health, and healing items. Go outside to get back in my truck to drive back to base, the truck which is located 200 yards away because this house had to be on top a giant hill because fuck you. Fuck you, a random wandering horde just happened to spawn here and they run you down because we made you blow all your shit on that mission we gave you zero warning would be an apocalyptic fuckfest. You're dead, fuck your corpse. Respawn back at base as some new survivor. Okay, that was fucking annoying, but at least the mission is over and my penalty is losing an experienced survivor. I'll just go get ready for the next mission...where the fuck are my influence points? I spent all that time scavenging and stockpiling, and now it's all locked out to me because I respawned as a new character who only starts with enough influence to take out a baseball bat? And supplies don't respawn, so all the nearby buildings are now looted and empty with their stuff effectively gone forever because I can't afford it now. With an infinite number of teleporting system shock 2 zombies running around.... Seriously? All your influence points go away if your current survivor dies? Even though it was Maya who died and I got most of my influence using Marcus? I'm going to have to restart all that story mission crap over again?
