I thought it was a knee jerk reaction at the time, or at the very least condescending towards text-only games. However, it makes a lot more sense with these, uh, <i>narrative-first gameplay-last</i> productions. "<i>They're not video games <b>*scoffs*</b> - I'm a writer for the thinking <s>man</s>person's interactive adventure fiction</i>". There's potential with Lovecraftian inspired stuff. The challenge is trying to bring that sense of cryptozoological/cosmic dread to the player. That's a lot harder than just quickly flipping through The Shadow Over Innsmouth (or whatever) as obscure nerd cred impetus for your game.[/quote]
