Re: Heh.

I skipped most of the responses from Bill's Qt3 request for good ol'American RPGs, but the ones I did read had some good suggestions. KOTOR 1 and 2, Beyond Divinity, Vampire Bloodlines would be good starters for non-nip RPGs. Replay Jagged Alliance 2 if you really want that squad combat fix. Wizardy 8 is worth the $10 or $20. Patch the hell out of it and read up on a good party. Take note that magic is used mostly as a buffer, counterbuffer like some guy said. Melee is where the damage dealers are. I can't say enough about Spiderweb's games. They're graphic dinosaurs, but they do have excellent, yet simple, content. Hours of fun per game, and there are four Avernum games and soon to be 3 Geneforge games. Anarchy Online is free you have a short attention span and not much cash. I'm having fun hunting down abandonware and ascii games like A.D.O.M. until something good comes out. If all else fails, try a city builder by Papyrus. Micromanaging by the assload. Or Pirates! Mr. Kool
I did my best. There were some good suggestions buried in there amongst the YUO DO NOT LIKE JAP RPGS?? FOR TO WHY??!?! and after stating in the title that I wasn't in the market for an action RPG, a litany of action RPGs. If you ever find any decent hardcore RPG, Kool, link it up here (or wherever on this site). I don't care about graphics anymore (I never really did). I'm loathe to return to graph paper mapping (only Dungeon master can get me to go that far), but anything more current than that. Even if it is, ugh, Diablo-like. RPGs are as dead as flight sims, and less dead then adventure games.
Try Might and Magic 4: Clouds of Xeen (and/or Darkside of Xeen, it is on that site too). It is like a colorful and gay Eye of the Beholder type game, and it is pretty progressive in terms of interface and automapping for a 1993 game. Plus, it runs fine with DOSbox. PS: I don't vouch for that (Frenchy) site, it was the first thing that came up on google. It could fuck up your computer or something I don't know. I didn't download it from there because I own the motherfucker, big floppy style. Old school.
