Re: Someone finally did it and tried to reuse the name "Tempest."

Tempest is the finest name of any video game ever. If you are alive and reading this, you know that it is true. So it was just a matter of time before some shitlords thought, "Huh, that's pretty good! Don't mind if I do!"
I've seen the original Tempest you are talking about, and I've played it. While it's a good game, it's not "the Great American Novel" of video games. I'm sure there are others that exceed it in fun, playability and entertainment value. But let me say this: if it was such a huge game, why is it no longer around, and why are there no clones of it? There must be a dozen clones of Tetris and probably a few of Dig Dug and some others. Even Centipede had at least one PC clone version; I played it. Yet I have not noticed a remake or PC version of Tempest. Uh, Jonsey, by the way, the name "Tempest" has been used many times before, including a play called The Tempest written about 500 years ago by an unknown hack named William Shakespeare. My favorite poem from the story: Our revels now are ended These our actors, as I foretold you Are all melted into air, into thin air And, like the baseless fabric of this vision The cloud capped towers The gorgeous palaces The solemn towers Yea, the Great Globe itself Shall dissolve And like this insubstantial pageant faded Leave not a rack behind! Also, for the legal part of it, the name of a product is called a "trademark" and you only have an exclusive on that as long as you are using it. If you abandon the product and stop selling it, your ownership of the name ceases and someone else can come along and use it for something else. Also, more than once I've seen competing software products, sometimes for the exact same function, have identical names. There was a really good terminal program, a network operations analytic software package, and a telephone butt set, all named "Telemate."
