Games you found consistently entertaining or keep coming back to and why
Didn't find this list anywhere. Let's talk about the stuff that keeps working or had a really good stretch for you, stuff that is exceedingly hard to get sick of. The original Mount & Blade - they had this great bit of action where you could gallop around with a lance at the ready to murder people. It wasn't really able to deliver on medieval battles but as Peasant Opression Simulator it was top of the line. Bonus points for letting me equip a tourney lance to knock everyone out and sell into slavery. This is my action game, I am casual. Paradox grand strats - Yes, I am that faggot. These aren't even each a game so much as the latest installment in a series sufficiently well known they just need initials. CK2, EU4, Vicky2, HoI3/4. I talked a lot about this and forgot the most interesting point - these games are strategy games but let you get no deeper than the operational level. This means they manage bloat surprisingly well for most products of their kind, though the really exploitative shit you can pull runs right into the UI limitations and is thus sort of self-limiting. Honorable mention goes to King Arthur: The Roleplaying Wargame - all that empty, repetitive Total War fight, repeat, fight action with a limited but meaningful dose of story, research, strategic development and character elements, with different gameplay available as you ascend a research tree and commit to a specific faction alignment. If it had diplomacy or more campaigns released episodically I'd still be playing. Post yours, I'll add more as I think of them
