The reason is that they're great family games
Dixit and TTR are perfect for family since the rule books are short and decisions are straightforward. AND YET, they're still relaxing enough to have a pleasant conversation without completely being dull. This isn't time with wargaming nerds who find rule books less than 70 pages too light.
Without strategy, Ticket to Ride is just picking cards until someone wins.
Almost all card games come down to "picking cards until someone wins". You literally don't understand the beauty of this game. It's so simple and easy and introduces introductory gaming concepts such as resource and hand management and blocking. It isn't meant to be played by people who regularly post on this board. It's above that sort of criticism because it does exactly what it intends to do which is what I said before - replace Monopoly as the family game of choice while still having some light strategy. For people who are already gamers there's TTR:Europe or Marklin. You can buy the 1910 expansion if you feel the base is too easy. And the maps are incredibly appealing to those who live or have roots outside the US. I've never played it on the computer/mobile since I imaging it scales terribly. Games this light should never be played electronically since computers just simplify math and resource management which isn't necessary here. Conviction overruled: TTR is still one of the best gateway and family games out there. During the Fabio Family Reunion they play other versions and expansions to have superior gaming time though.
Dixit is bullshit that can be replaced by having everyone sit down and flip through a coffee table picture book. Verdict: What's wrong with Pictionary?
Why play Pictionary over Dixit? The pictures are pre-drawn in Dixit so are at least nice to look at as opposed to my terrible scrawls in paper and you're guessing at which one to pick instead of what an object is. Dixit is perfect for friendly groups where you try to give a hint that will be known to 1-2 people. If you're clever, you can catch on and get the points as well. If you're not, everyone else figures it out and you lose. There's also a zillion expansions for different cards. Conviction overruled: It's great for family time where there's a lot of in-jokes built into group.
