I'm having trouble following your argument.
Disliking taxes is not (yet?) a crime. It's not really part of a "crate of ammo" that can be used against Thiel. Thiel's businsesses also don't really exploit his workers. Most Americans would love to be employed at PayPal, or Palantir. It's a good job, that pays six figures, well above the median US income. The mainstream left doesn't really have a problem with companies like Palantir either. For example, the NYT carried water for Bush back when we invaded Iraq, and deliberately refrained from publishing some of the leaks that happened during the Obama administration. As a rule, the MSM does not dunk on the FBI, CIA, NSA, etc. the same way they dunk on local cops. Thiel's interest in weird life extension technologies (scams?) like cryonics and blood transfusion is weird. But the MSM didn't hold back on publishing that stuff. There are tons of articles you can find on it. At this point, it's old news, like explaining that Michael Jackson bleached his skin. We all knew that already, there's only been like a zillion stories about it.
Getting the pieces printed now gets them further down the road to November, what with being able to reference previously published articles, as in 'as we previously wrote at [link], this associate of Trump is also a media hater.' Any well-run shop will have those stories on hand ahead of time and drop them sequentially, over time, to let the story build momentum and keep readers hooked like a multi-episode arc on the Sopranos. Callbacks. Complexity. The many crimes of the great and good.
There's no story arc because nothing has actually happened, though. I mean the media is expert from making up stories about almost nothing, but there has to be something there. "Weird rich guy is still weird and rich" is not a story arc. I also don't see where the Trump tie-in comes from, anyway. I thought Thiel was distancing himself from Trump-- in public, at least. (Yes, yes, I know he met with Trump in like 2017 or whenever it was)
