You play Allen Ripley who is sent off on a voyage to investigate Space Rapture with a crack team of Obvious Robot and Lawyer who you are immediately separated from so they can probably show up in a plot twist later. Like Underwater Rapture, Space Rapture is in complete disarray and everyone is an asshole. A KILLER, whose identity and species is cryptically hidden from you because this is a new IP that no one has ever heard of, is on the loose on the space station picking people off one-by-one. As a result, everyone has splintered off into murderously tiny groups to increase the chances of survival you're told, exactly the way humanity has survived adversity for millions of years. Upon arrival, you wander around in the dark and fill your pockets with random bits of scrap metal and bottles of glue that you will inevitably want to huff so you can trip balls and take your mind off of the fact that you're actually forced to crawl through vents because someone left a suitcase in the hallway.
Step over it? Can't be done!
Eventually you find a head-mounted flashlight that has a shorter battery life than an old iPhone, which we'll interpret as a biting commentary on capitalism of the future and not a really contrived survival horror mechanic. After at least an hour of game time, you're finally treated to a cutscene announcing that the game has begun and you'll have to start playing now. PROTIP TO NEW PLAYERS OF ANY MODERN SURVIVAL HORROR GAME: If monsters have not received a dramatic introduction OR you possess no means of survival (either through personal inventory or environment), go ahead and throw caution to the wind and run as fast as you possibly can through the environment, scouring every nook and cranny for treasure, with no consideration for stealth or survival. By design, there's no chance you're in any danger, no matter how spooky the sounds or how suddenly the ceiling falls down.
