Congrats on Nintendo creating the dumbest console migration possible
Suppose you want to transfer data from one Switch console to another; that is, user accounts, save games, saved screenshots and video, and all of your downloaded games. Maybe you got a new model, or you were sharing a console and now you own more than one and want to separate content, or maybe your life is empty and meaningless and you try to find comfort in unnecessary consumerism. Suppose all of your downloads are stored on an SD card. What’s the process you expect? 1) initiate data transfer on source 2) initiate data transfer on destination 3) wait for transfer of accounts, save games, screenshots, and other personalized data 4) remove SD card from old console 5) plug in SD card on new console 6) immediately be able to pick up where you left off, all of your games intact Haha, NO! Fuck you. Perhaps 4 & 5 are combined into step 3 and all of your games are also transferred wirelessly too! Hooray! Haha, NO! Fuck you again. Here is what awaits you: 1) … 2) … 3) wait for transfer of accounts and saved games. Screenshots and video will be left behind. 4) remove SD card from old console 5) plug in SD card in new console 6) get prompted that the SD card is tied to another console, will be reformatted, all of your gigabytes of purchases must be redownloaded, and you can suck a fat dick 7) angrily eject SD card Ok, you might be thinking they don’t want you to be able swap cards around or duplicate data. However, it’s already keyed to a console so sharing cards is out. Their official process for duplicating a card for a same console is to plug it into a PC and copy/paste the contents from one SD card to another, so they’re fine with copying cards. For no fucking reason they have no process for rekeying an SD card. Sure, you’ve got all of your games on a REMOVABLE MEMORY CARD, but why not just redownload 100GB? ^_______^ Like, I guess they’ve never used a computer in the last 50 years. I’m surprised they actually have a list of your purchases in the online store and don’t force you to search for them on your own one by one. But this also highlights the stupidity of not being able to transfer purchases in the data exchange. They fucking know which accounts own what, so they can just transfer it over and delete or disable the old games. It’s not a matter of too much data transferred, I upgraded my iPhone after a million years and it had no problem streaming 60GB of data over Bluetooth. Nintendo’s engineers just somehow managed to invent the worst possible data migration. Apparently if you want to transfer Animal Crossing you’re even more fucked and have to download a special tool from the App Store, your save game isn’t transferred at all by default. How many people are savvy enough to realize that and wrongly assume they have to eat shit and start over?
