California: a case-study in crazy-ass idealism

This was an act written and sponsored by a private PAC committed solely to the permanent outlawing of gay marriage. The group was created by religious nutbags who became alarmed at the fact that Hawaii and Vermont were leaning toward permitting gay marriage, with full legal benefits (and penalties, I suppose). I don't doubt the government in general isn't predisposed against the idea, and certainly it goes against everything John Ashcroft believes in, but I doubt it has anything to do with the loss of a tax base.
Their accessible!!! legislature and progressive mindset sound charming, until you realize California's voters are just as stupid as anyplace else's. The people will vote for any fucking crazy thing imaginable, as long as it's sold as genuine moral high ground and packaged in slick, expensive, 30-second morsels. Ray!
