Re: Let's make a real score card

Anti-war argument: Saddam was not involved with Al-Quaeda. Actual fact: Undoubtedly true.
There is clearly NO DOUBT in our minds. Why again?
Saddam was the frontman for secular Arabia, Osama Bin Laden/Taliban cronies for religious Arabia. Needless to say, "the USA MUST die" is about the only thing they agreed on, and Saddam was buddy-buddy with the US right up until Desert Storm - which is to say it's simply purely selfish motives, in his case. There's a lot more reason for mutual assassination attempts than material assistance to be exchanged between the two. While the government has tried to imply (witness all those stories about how the Whitehouse attempted, but failed yet again, to link 9/11-Saddam during the pre-war circus) there was a connection, there is not and has not been evidence to suggest such. The glaringly obvious reasons why they wouldn't (ie Osama hates Saddam almost as much, possibly more, than the US) have prevented the administration from attempting to build a half-assed case or release anything beyond a few vague 'well we think there COULD be a connection. Somehow." statements to satisfy the plebes. With nearly four-fifths of Americans swallowing this statement despite every major media report consistently pointing out there is no reason nor evidence to suspect such a link, one has to admire their ability to manipulate public opinion by feeding the public what it wants. Of course, the skeptic shouts next, "Why would the public want to hear this? Why do they WANT this bias?" Because the public, until the very end of the pre-war frenzy, didn't really believe the case for chemical weapons - there was a mid-forties percent that didn't in a few polls, and some points of 'don't know' (smart choice). In short the public wanted to have a reason to hate the enemy so they could feel justified in the result that we all knew was coming all along - the White House gave them that with it's vagueries and despite them being patently absurd, they fit what the people NEEDED to hear so perfectly that they latched onto the idea like a leech. Ergo percentage of population who believes in said link. They have to in order to support their country and thereby 'be patriotic.' Never realizing that all of this is the exact opposite of what democracy is about. Shit, I've dropped straight from amateur psycholanalysis to preaching. How gauche. Anyways, there you go. Best I could do on . . . God, days without sleep now. Need bed. Argue later, --SB
