GTA3 & GTA-VC -- Two must have games. I was having trouble deciding which I like more and finally managed to figure it out. The setting (grim and gritty New York style city) and endless fun of wreaking havoc at an insane level is better in GTA3. Everything else is better in GTA-VC. Don't get me wrong -- they're both great games. While VC was mostly an upgrade of GTA3 on every level, the cops are harder to spot and more ruthless and on your ass when you start wreaking havoc which meant that I had a lot less fun deviating from the game to go on insane kill sprees and invented mini-games like "wanted star taxi mission." (Thanks to whoever suggested that fun diversion back on the OMM boards.)
I think the only things VC did better was having motorcycles and making money useful. I had a ton of fun with nearly every GTA3 mission while VC managed to compose the majority of the campaign around the kinds I hated most: shooting and racing. The radio was also ten times more enjoyable in 3; VC's DJ's were just plain crap and a lot of the humor seemed to be on an adolescent level despite the game being marketed for its 80's nostaltia. Every time I turned it on it always seemed to be fucking unfunny Fernando or Thor the Viking.
