I think his point is that people lied. If Iraq was a problem that needed dealing with, why lie?
I think your are overgenerous to INC's argument. His "point" as described in that article is essentially that people who disagreed with the course of action and interpretation of the evidence chosen by the Bush administration with respect to Iraq continue to disagree, which is neither definitive nor all that surprising. I don't think Bush was lying about the WMD's;
IMO Bush lied during the State of the Union (you know the whole Nigeria helps with the nuclear weapons program thing), but I guess that is a little off-topic. You could simply dismiss everything said during and shortly before the war as propaganda, works for me.
Iraq's behaviour over the last decade would not make sense in any other scenario except for one where WMD development is at stake. To pretend that there absence up til now in Iraq is the final word on the matter would be to pretend that none of the neighbouring countries and assorted world powers with ties to the Iraqi regime and interests in causing trouble for the US would want to lend a helping hand in that respect as they once did with building them.
Fair enough. How long do we have to wait until it's the final word of the matter?
Much like the French helped get all those Baathist officials through Syria with French papers.
Wich the French claim never happened. *shrug*
Also I am looking forward to the other regime changing wars that are soon to come, there is a lot to be dealt with. I am actually unable to tell if that is your genuine sentiment or one of those airy statements people use to dismiss current American foreign policy by arguing that if a policy cannot get rid of all problems in the world it should get rid of none. Care to clarify?
I am a pacifist, that was my feeble attempt at sarcasm. Also I was emphasizing "wars", not "regime changing". Also I don't think that the "policy" can't get rid of all problems in the world, I just don't think it won't be used that way.
