Re: The list

If you have any interest in flight sims give IL2: Sturmovik a looksee. I had a rudamentary knowledge of piloting small aircraft before this game, but it didn't matter. It's fairly easy to get into(provided you have a joystick) and it's just wonderful. There's tons of options to adjust "realism" in the game, so the learning curve is user-defined. Within three hours I went from struggling to get on the runway to pulling a hammerhead into a 5000ft dead engine dive, only to restart the engine 200ft above ground and climb back up. Stuff like that, and you can shoot and bomb things, too.
I second that. IL-2 is a piece of work. I have never had much fun with a flight sim until now, and the graphics are more than acceptable. And the dogfighting, unlike more high tech sims, is actually enjoyable not because it is easy but because of a little innovation known as "it matters how good you are and what you know". It was the last game that made my computer upgrade worth it. A fuck you to Morrowind. It makes wholly derivative, poorly designed console RPG's seem like a fucking party in comparison. The Construction Set is reasonably interesting to mess around with, but the complete ABSENCE OF INTERACTIVITY, including in combat where you might as well be swinging in a void, is unacceptable in a recent game. Forget about the bullshit the makers promised; while they were busy focusing on how the water looks when you run through it they forgot to, I don't know, make levelling and character design remotely interesting or coherent.
