Re: It's as if I never paid income tax...

In my lifetime I've paid more into healthcare than I have ever used for the one broken arm and bunch of sutures incurred. Still a fan.
Which in economic terms could be described as irrational,
unless the mediocre treatment for life-threatening ailments later on is what you are banking on (which is still irrational for most).

Mediocre treatment. You condescending ass. Do the doctors in Canada only go through a portion of medical school? Are you aware that if some crazy procedure or machine isn't available in Canada, the patient is flown to... [drumroll] THE USA, where the hospitals are gold plated and there is never a malpractice suit. That's covered by healthcare, BTW. But whatever, the system is "going bankrupt", right? So you sit there in South America, and imagine the patients dying in the hallways or whatever you wish so that it'll fit into your agenda.
Either way, I still think the fact that support for "free healthcare" is fundamentally an emotional rather than a logical one should be a source of concern.
Most leftist ideas are out of concern for fellow man and the desire to build a better society, not build a better bank account and fortress in the wilderness. Because we don't live on Vulcan.
