Re: You know what's funny?

Every single person I know has mentioned lately that they are looking into moving to Canada. No joke.
The complain, loudly and often, and shake their arms furiously at some pre-marginalized dipshit protest or write furious letters to congressmen and companies that are, strangely, never dignified with so much as a response.
I'm being a fucking pedantic fuck, but every piece of constituent correspondence gets read by someone at some point. The reason you aren't gettting a response is: a) Bulk Faxes come in by the hundreds every day, especially if you're congressman is in a leadership position b) Bulk E-Mails get printed out so they can be sorted. Also a huge bitch to deal with. c) Idiots sign give their permission to lobbying companies that then slap their names on every bulk e-mail and fax sent to your Congressman/Senator, causing A and B d) There probably isn't a good system set up to hand the volume of mail coming into the district office, much less the Capitol Hill Office e) The legislative correspondent probably doesn't have his shit together or the legislative assistants aren't getting their asses in gear and writing general responses to the issues in questions The easiest way to get your mail noticed is if it's sent via regular mail. Make sure it's a typed letter, not handwritten (the elderly have a problem with this...), less than 1 page and is coherent. Anything else is generally given a 3 second glance in order to classify what sort of general letter is going to be sent to that person eventually. I've worked on Capitol Hill, and I've seen the gross generalizations that come with poltical discussion (It's not as bad here as it is at POENEWs and other sites. I'd hate to throw stones, being a lurker and all, but the libs on POENEWS and Caltrops seem to love to engauge in Dean/Liberal Peptalk circlejerks every two weeks or so, like clockwork. It'd be funny if it weren't so predictable.
