Re: Short Reviews, or What I Read on my Summer Vacation

Anyone have any suggestions? I want something straightforward and uncomplicated, hopefully with alot of explosions and big tough guys firing laser guns and maybe some sex.
Fallen Dragon, by some guy. Even though I put it down forever after skimming the first hundred or two pages where basically a super hot teenage girl falls immediately in love with the pudgy, geeky hero as a teenage boy and can't go five minutes without tearing her clothes off and fucking him, I guess it eventually goes on into some guerilla war against corporate invasion forces or something. Seemed like an interesting concept brought down by the extremely obvious pandering for the first hundred pages of teenage sex. So, I guess it fits your criteria.
How 'bout David Drake: Hammer's Slammers, that kind of stuff? He did a few that are futuristic adaptations of some Greek Myths (I think he did Jason and the Argonauts in one). Not much sex, but lots of kinda 'Nam-memed action. I dig 'em. Bitter.
I read a lot of Frederick Pohl when I was a kid. Straightforward and always guarantees a sex scene, no matter how improbable. May not meet your violence needs, though. The Gateway/Heechee books are the best.
Stephen R. Donaldson - The Gap into Power series.
