Just finished it

To be more precise, since the responces to 9/11. The thing is, I can't narrow down who Walton Simons should be. That fuckwad charged with the most holy quest of spying on the internet? Ashcroft? Bush? -/ES/- No, obviously not Bush.
Finally played it. Great game, the kind of game System Shock 2 should have been. While not as wholesale awful as in SS2, I still think the skill system (or "virtual incompetence" as I call it) sucked. Luckily someone in the design team agrees with me because there's a code to give yourself all the skill points you need to bring all your skills to master level without putting that "Cheats enabled" mark of stigma on your save files. I like to think that with $50 billion invested in this cyborg, they probably would have taken the time to actually teach him how to shoot, swim, etc. And with the difficulty set to "realistic" the challenge is retained. Instead of a stooge clambering his way towards competence, I start out excellent, then my gradually improving augs made me AWESOME. Excellent plot. A close second to planescape. And I agree it's spooky in this political climate. The emergency govt powers, the "private contractors" taking over military roles, the application of the term "terrorist" to all opposition. But dear god, they needed some better voice actors, especially when doing the voices with foreign accents. I think Rumsfeld would be Simons, an ugly dude with zero charisma given to tellingly callous statements who's proven himself to be politically untouchable. (remember when there was an uproar in congress to have him removed because of the Iraq fiasco that sorta... disappeared?) Bush would still be the puppet president, Condi and the rest of the cabinet the MJ12 lieutenants. Paige would probably be Rupert Murdoch. And I think Cheney's killphrase would just be a well-timed "Boo!"
