Rocket Jockey lives on Windows XP
1995 to 1997 was a difficult time for PC games. For instance, let's take SegaSoft. They were working with Steve Meretzky, who figured out how to sell 250,000 copies of a text game (Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy). SegaSoft did their part in their relationship when it came to The Space Bar by making it appear in a non-draggable 640x480 window that does a check for Windows 95 and shuts the installer down if it's any other OS. The Space Bar was sold, at the end of its shelf life, in a two pack with Rocket Jockey. I don't have a PC that can run The Space Bar correctly, and for years I was under the impression that Rocket Jockey would also constantly die in compatibility mode for XP. Not so! A friend of mine pointed me to this: http://home.comcast.net/~masterpisgreat/RJSetup.exe If you have the original Rocket Jockey CD you can use the above 1.1 installer to install the game. The only problem I had afterwards is that it wouldn't work with my Playstation 2 gamepad adapter. (I had to unplug it completely.) No matter, it really does run fine with a keyboard. Rocket Jockey is just a ton of fun and if you don't have it, I would imagine it's on eBay cheap. I'd host an ISO if it weren't 330 MB. I hate sports games that make up fake sports, but this is the one exception. (If that .exe goes away, I will host that here at Caltrops.) the dark and gritty...Ice Cream Jonsey!
