I've been avoiding this thread because of the rage it induces in me looking at some comments (personally attacking the team -- really man? REALLY?), but I want to clarify some things.

Most comments are conflating four separate things (understandably so since from the outside they're all one and the same): 3DR the company, DNF the game, DNF the troubled project, and the DNF team.

3DR, as a company, has a lot of history. Make fun of 3DR and talk about Max Payne whatever, not a big deal, because this team had nothing to do with it.

DNF the game is another thing, separate from its history and industry lore. No one here can comment on the game because no one has played the latest version.

DNF's history is full of LOL, no one on the team will dispute that. But DNF the project is very different than DNF the game. The problem is that separating the two has been almost impossible for most people.

Where I get angry are shots at the DNF team. The final incarnation of the team didn't need saving, they had their act together and were as top notch as it gets, and most of those guys are going to find jobs at AAA studios with ease.

Laying the history of DNF and 3DR's past on the current team, however, is grossly unfair, every single guy that was on the team felt he could make a difference.

And you know what? They all did. They were shipping this game, and unfortunately what happened was that once the car was back on track and heading for the finish line, it simply ran out of gas. That wasn't the team's fault, they had no idea of the situation, they were just busting ass and moving forward, and the game was making huge leaps and bounds on a monthly basis. I guess you'll have to take my word on that, but most of that stuff you see in the demo reel that was leaked didn't even exist a year ago. [WHAT THE FUCK EXISTED A YEAR AGO HOLY SHIT!!! --Fussbett] The most anyone on the team was guilty of was optimism and, in a couple cases, loyalty.

If people want to quibble and needle about 3DR's past, that's fine, because the bulk of people in that final photo had nothing to do with DNF's history, they were doing what they could to take an infamous industry project and get it back on track, and all those guys were doing a great job.

And come on guys, judging the game based on one guy's reel done with whatever happened to be checked in as the current build on our last day, when we were still a ways out from shipping is a little unfair don't you think? Most companies that release trailers take WEEKS to put them together, and some of these guys had hours with little technical help, using whatever was available.

Keep it in perspective.
