| Have I mentioned that I'm doing soul-killing contract PowerPoint for a PR firm off and on these days? Well let me tell you about the time I met the big boss. She was readying her PowerPoint presentation to send to a company in China. An extreme "type A" personality, she's well disliked and feared for all her little brusque traits like when I sit down to fix her "WHERE ARE MY PAGE NUMBERS?" problem and she says "Hold on and let me save this, because when you mess this up, I'll lose days of work". Yeah, WHEN I mess this up.
After fixing her footer issue and failing to delete days of her PowerPoint work, she asked if there was a way to convert a presentation to PDF file so that the theiving Chinese wouldn't be able to alter her work, but only print it. I said that was possible, but didn't know if they had the software on hand, and that I'd ask IT. Since I think outside the box, I said that failing PDF distillation, you could always save it to the uneditable PPS format. "No, that's no good", she says. "China has technology TEN TIMES what we have here! They'd hack that in a second!" |
