Yah, they're a bit awkward at first.. It wasn't made any easier by the Playstation D-pad. I'll tell ya guys, I like an actual pad. Not the little chunks of cursor the original controller had. Got me a knockoff pretty early and never looked back. The Resident Evil family of people seemed to rotate in place too. Not a problem when the camera got mounted over the shoulder for four, though.
