The good news is that the game is as grind intensive as you want it to be. I like the winner-takes-all dungeon model, akin to the one in Persona 3, and I like the simplicity and occasional brilliance of in-dungeon enemies and traps. There's nothing flashy, it's just well put together with respect to the ornate abortions JRPGs favor these days, kind of like when you compare the simple genius of Star Control 2's planetary landing and exploration model vs Mass Effect 1's (or its approach to scans, with respect to ME2, for that matter). It's kind of a reach for a comparison, but they're both the most recent PC games I've played in depth so it's what's on my mind.
Bonus: all cutscenes are skippable, and about as creepy as Disgaea, which is to say not very much at all. |
