How big of a douchebag would I be to use that as a standard for judging video games?

Whoa, disagree! How many people in games have problems easily solved by either moving to a new town or by apologizing to someone? How many people in games even HAVE real problems?

Every single element of drama in New Vegas could be negated if the protaganist simply moved out of Las Vegas and the greater Las Vegas area. I don't consider those real problems, laudable. Not after what you've been through. I appreciate your stiff upper lip, but this is the Internet.

Here are some people in games with real problems that rivaled your own and were worth fixing:

Middle Linebacker, 10 Yard Fight: The "mike" linebacker is physically incapable of NOT intercepting the ball if thrown to him, and there is no indication that this wouldn't apply to objects thrown near him in general, making him a human fly trap. Ray Lewis was about half as good as this fictional player, and he got so fame-crazy he murdered a couple of guys for still no adequately explained reason.

Unnamed Chef, PO'ed: Our player character's ship crash-landed on an alien world, and he was in the process of trying to get out armed only with a frying pan. He didn't want any trouble, and after spending $700 on a 3D0, players were also psychologically inclined to listen to him and treat his circumstance with more respect. NOTE: still no word if John C. Dvorak considers PO'ed to be one of the "great games" in the 3D0's library.

Mr. Do!, Mr. Do!: I, too, have a lawn that is completely out of control. If it began to gestate an ability to murder me, I would consider that something I should take steps to resolve by throwing a dodge ball until a satisfactory resolution took place.

I haven't played it, but they released an expansion pack to New Vegas, which takes place in Sierra Madre, California. So even getting up and moving didn't help that fat fuck*?

the dark and gritty...Ice Cream Jonsey!

*depending on how you made your New Vegas avatar of course; Personally I had just gotten widescreen

You clearly despise this game, but the reasons why remain inscrutable to me. I obviously won't convince you, and that's fine. As far as trivial problems, there's a quest to fix an irradiated water supply, and the first town is beset by a gang of shitheads (hackneyed, but not trivial IMO). One guy wants to find out who murdered his wife, and the overarching plot (or part of it) is that the army of Granbretan is at the gates. This doesn't seem trivial to me. Some ghouls want to embark on a space voyage, that was pretty cool. There's a lot of good stuff here.
