the game actually comes with a story even tho it doesn't need one, but as I mentioned in my review of some other steam based tower defense games, a simple story can add a tremendous amount of depth to any kind of game.
so in trenched, two men are exposed to a mysterious signal broadcast that makes them super geniuses overnight. one guy, the american, invents mechs and generally advances the state of mobile warfare to an unforeseen level. the other guy, a white european male with a goofy accent (in this case, russian) designs the internet and generates an army of monsters from out of the ether which he sends all over the world (europe africa and the pacific) in an efford to "spread the broadcast to everyone."
the enemies are commonly referred to as "tubes" which prompts your pilots to fire off some clever zingers like "this is for you, tubes" hence the game is about tracking down the guy who gave that extremely negative and incorrect review of brutal legend and perforating him with giant mech based shotguns and stuff.
the bad guy actually states "I've been too open, I believe SO MUCH in the freedom of information" before he sends out a tube that shields other tubes, so I guess tim schafer is some kind of FASCIST |
