It's a very cute video. I hate playing games on handheld systems, but I'm going to have to try that one.
They wanted $20,000 and they have made it with 24 days to go. It should be noted that none of the "levels" include the actual game. So if you donate, you can get a poster, shirt or all the game's DLC, but not the game itself. I've never seen a Kickstarter page do that. They explain why here:
The quickest, and basically only path to success, on the Android and iPhone market places is with sales. If we gave the game away, our #1 asset which is our fans, would be gone on day one. We have done our best to offset that by giving you every piece of DLC we ever produce for free - so you've got that going for you.
After the Diaspora disaster (a bunch of kids raise $200K through Kickstarter for a Facebook clone concerned with privacy and haven't released anything) I'm real hesitant to just give money to these ventures out of principle. Yeah, $5 is nothing, but I think we're going to see some skepticism as more of these projects fail to come up with the goods. A lot of projects go way over the requested amount because you're getting stuff. In this case, with Star Command already funded, my take is, "I'll just give you money for the actual game when it's done."
But yes, check out the video.
