MSNBC had a quote that a political group was using on its website, allegedly from Thomas Jefferson about avoiding becoming beholden to corporate interests. MSNBC's research department, after people wrote them, discovered also that they couldn't find the quote as coming from anything in Jefferson's writings, decided to issue a retraction.
At the end of the retraction, the guy said, "We should have known better. After all, as Abraham Lincoln said, 'Don't believe every quote you see posted on the Internet'." And basically everyone in the studio burst out laughing, as I did too.
