I agree with you that the ship battles are the only interesting part and even that is MAYBE not as interesting as the SNES STTNG ship battles. Certainly they look better. The Trek visuals and sound effects in this game are 10/10 but it is a disappointment overall.

One problem I had besides the weapons modes is how many messages and shit were spamming my screen. Maybe it was my video settings, but I was getting a bunch of popups of people talking and tutorial windows and other explanations and prompts. It all looked like cluttered shit overlapping itself. That's tolerable in a F2P game but wasn't this shit $60 on release day?

Okay, but the tutorial: "Ensign, the Borg are attacking! The Captain specifically requests you fix the warp core and then take the helm. Oh shit, Ensign, man the photon torpedoes and raise comm to our ally ship! Ensign, hurry, we need you to treat injuries in sick bay and then warp over to a ship and kill all the Borg single-handedly. PS the Borg no longer adjust their shields to resist phaser fire for some reason. This is just like Star Trek, right!!!??" I know it's a tutorial but this isn't okay. Why not run me through all that shit at Starfleet Academy? That'd be totally appropriate. To run me through it during a climactic Borg invasion is a toothy fanservice blowjob. I know I'm supposed to enjoy it but I find myself wishing they'd ease up. If the tutorial mission is part of an incredible series of events where my heroic character saves the universe single-handed then.... why should I play any further when I know it'll be 80 hours of collecting Tribble pelts?
