Election is a personally satisfying movie for me, because I had been on the receiving end from multiple teachers like Matthew Broderick's character who did far worse to me for far less.
Apparently the movie's darkly comic ending was not the original one planned and shot, but instead it was supposed to have a sappy ending that not only absolves Matthew Broderick's character for his sins, but Reese Witherspoon's overachiever for hers as well. This sappy ending was such a betrayal of the movie's tone that not only has Paramount not included it with any DVD releases, it's pulled down the rough-cut print from Youtube. I could only find it at this this dinky website.
So hooray for interfering studio execs who don't share the director's vision, apparently. |
