I - I am not sure if it will have beam weapons. You might be able to hit people with a beam in ship mode? I guess?
Nobody is denying that Freespace 2 is awesome. In fact, on my own person list, I have Freespace 2 as the greater game. But even in a galaxy made of 256 stars, I think there is room for both.
More of a general observation how absolutely none of the space sims that followed in its wake copied any of its innovations. I recently tried Sol: Exodus, which tries to breathe life into the genre by adding a capital ship computer hacking minigame.
Plus, not to derail, but how the hell are you people playing Freespace 2 without a flightstick and trackball? I need a game port to USB adapter before I pick up Freespace 2 again.
I'm playing with my F-16 modeled CH Combatstick USB thank you, very much. I've found logitech joysticks to be pieces of shit that fall apart within a year, but these CH sticks are top quality. Hell, if I still had a joystick port, I could probably plug in my old CH flightstick pro from my dad's 386 and it would still work great. One day I'll get the nerve to buy a CH throttle to go with, but I'm not sure I'm ready just yet for the avalanche of pussy that would attract.
I once tried Freespace 2 with an Xbox 360 pad for shits and giggles. Worked out pretty decent, using the triggers as a roll axis.
I'm curious about the need for a trackball, though. You mean simultaneously with a flightstick, or playing with sko mouse-WASD control? |
