Actually, Leviticus 18:22 does specifically prohibit "lying with a man as you would with a woman." Interestingly enough, there is no similar prohibition on women lying with women in this verse. Leviticus also says a lot of other stuff. For example, slavery is awesome, as long as it's foreigners (Leviticus 25:44-45), you can't cut your beard or "the hair at the sides of your head" (Leviticus 19:27), and you should put to death people who curse their father or mother (Leviticus 20:9). Modern Christians and Jews generally ignore the rest of that stuff and focus on what they want to read in the text.
If you are a Christian (as opposed to Jew), Romans 1:26-27 contains a pretty strong denunciation of both male and female homosexuality by Paul of Tarsus. Paul in general says a lot of awkward things in his epistles, such as calling the Jews "stubborn," or those versus that John Calvin later used to argue in favor of predestination. But if you are going to try to follow the canon, then I think it's pretty clear. |
