I don't play consoles as much as I play PC games. Out of a sense of (non)professional obligation to some idealized version of a culture critic, I make sure I have (almost) all the consoles and play the major games on them, unless I can get them on PC at which point fuck your controller and shitty output rez. Watchdogs and Titanfall aren't platform exclusives, it looks like Watch_Dogs got delayed anyway, basically I won't be getting these consoles for any of the launch titles. If there's a sequel to Dragon's Dogma or something I'll end up with a PS4 first I bet.
Anyway this guy is saying there's a review embargo on the Xbox One because while Sony is out bragging about everything on their platform being 1080p, Activision is having an embarrassingly hard time getting CoD Ghosts to run at 1080p, so the game will be 720p on launch day. The Xbox One upscales everything to 1080p on output, but upscaled 720p means it won't look near as good as it will on PS4.
I don't like the trend towards 1080p monitors for PCs at all, I think games look like shit on them compared to 1920x1200, but it's fine for televisions. 1080p is a lot better than 720p upscaled though, and it's really shitty that they can't get fps "ie. the purpose of an Xbox One near as I can tell" to run at a modern tv's native res.
Lookin forward to see how they cheat on this for whatever the next Halo is. |
