I think Gino's East is looked down upon more than Giordano's, to be honest, and I've never had a bad pie from Giordano's. Lou Malnati's crust is transcendent. As far as low-level dining goes, an Italian beef is divine, and there is the Maxwell Street Polish (w/ mustard, onions). Chicago dogs are to be had everywhere, and are honestly hard to fuck up.
There's the Indian restaurants up on Devon, and a few good ones downtown. Gaylord was my favorite downtown until they moved up to the Gold Coast - haven't been there since. I can't give good advice on Chinatown since I had actual Asians escorting me for work trips.
High end stuff is everywhere.
