| The 2005 Xbox port of Doom 3 is superior to the PC version. Levels are shorter and more straightforward (with less downtime, especially near the beginning), lighting is simpler and brighter (Hollywood-dark as opposed to dark-dark), and there's a full co-op campaign. Meanwhile, the 2005 Xbox port of Half-Life 2 is dramatically INFERIOR to the PC version. Loading times are excessive, the frame rate sucks, there's no multiplayer of any kind, and whoever decided to lock both steering and acceleration/reverse-acceleration(!) to the two axes of a single analog stick should be run over, repeatedly, with a waste-encrusted sewer boat.
The 2012 Xbox 360 port of Doom 3: BFG Edition is not only worse than both the original Xbox port and the original PC version, it's also arguably worse than being ritually murdered by an actual Satanist. THIS IS THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE THREAD, which I cheekily - and, in retrospect, rather stupidly - titled "In praise of: Doom 3" instead of "In condemnation of: Doom 3: BFG Edition." If you have access to a seventh-generation console or comparable PC, there is literally NO REASON to play any of these games, especially since a couple of genuinely good ones (FEAR, Call of Duty 2) came out the very same year. Whereas if you were a diehard FPS fan and all you had was a sixth-generation console, I think you could've been reasonably satisfied with the Xbox port of Doom 3. I certainly was! (It was no TimeSplitters 3, though - not even close.) laudablepuss wrote: The BFG Edition makes every cutscene unskippable. Either way, it's somehow still less irritating than whenever Half-Life 2 would decide to lock you in a room for five minutes so its state-of-the-art horrible CGI puppets could make faces at you while verbally slobbering over Gordon Freeman's Messianic dick. Oh no, I was trying so hard to keep this thread clean and games-positive. Can't we have even a little cheerleading around here??
