I think this was on Caltrops at some point, but I can't find the post so fuck it. Maybe it was part of an indie game roll up?
Anyway, I've been playing the generically titled "Treasure Adventure Game" recently. It's a freeware game. It's kind of a metroidvania with pixel-art style graphics. The music is surprisingly good. There are a bunch of different tunes, so it doesn't get too repetitious.
There is a plot, involving saving the world and some such, but it's pretty easy to ignore. Most of the focus here is on finding treasures. You get a map to each treasure. If you select the map, you'll get an arrow telilng you whether it's to the left, right, up, down, etc. The game takes place entirely in 2D platformer mode so there is no Z axis or overhead view.
The puzzle aspect is pretty strong here. Weapon upgrades are not a big part of the game, so you'll have to rely on very specific timing patterns to beat boss battles and deal with enemies. A lot of enemies can't be killed, so you have to just get past them.
I'm almost done with it. So far, the puzzles are pretty satisifying. I also like the fact that this game lets you shoot monkeys with a canonn-- that has to count for something. |
