a) play on hard/very hard.
b) the combat system is a little different in Dragonfall. If someone is in cover you can't crit them. Magic, hand-to-hand attacks, explosives, and a special SMG attack will break cover. Therefore there is value in being eclectic.
c) There's more stuff for deckers to do but you can always bring an NPC decker with you who will hit almost all the marks. There are also more skill-gated conversation trees so there is some value in boosting stats like Intelligence, Biotech, and Charisma as well as taking Etiquettes if you care about that stuff. Academic/socialite/shadowrunner don't get you very much though.
